Express Entry
The Express Entry System
is not an immigration program or stream. It is an online application management system.
The Express Entry System mainly manages applications for three economic immigration programs:
Provinces and territories can also recruit candidates from the Express Entry pool through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to meet local labour market needs.
How does it work?
- You no longer need to send your completed immigration application to the concerned immigration office. Instead, you make your profile and submit it to the Express Entry Pool, where your profile can remain valid for up to a year.
- Before you can submit your profile in the Express Entry pool, you must:
1. Be eligible for one of the three economic immigration programs managed by the Express Entry System;
2. Demonstrate your language skills with an appropriate language test result; and
3. If your educational qualifications were earned outside of Canada, obtain and Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).
- All applicants in the Express Entry Pool are assigned a score (Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score) based on their:
1. Age;
2. Level of Education;
3. Length of eligible Work Experience;
4. Language Test (e.g. IELTS) score;
5. Relatives in Canada;
6. Possessing a valid job offer in Canada;
7. Possessing a nomination from a Canadian Province;
8. Other.
- Every month, there are draws from the Express Entry Pool. These draws are usually restricted to individual immigration programs. Candidates with the highest scores receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), provided they qualify for that immigration program. As per latest immigration mandate, IRCC may target specific occupation based draws. An ITA allows you to apply for your permanent residence in Canada.
